Submission Guidelines:

Fiction Guidelines:

We are looking for literary fiction that is fresh and original. We accept fiction in its traditional forms, as well as fiction that is unafraid to experiment with language, point of view and narrative form. We prefer finely crafted and well-written pieces that celebrate the art as well as the craft of fiction. Although there is no minimum word count, fiction submissions should be no longer than 4000 words. Fiction writers may submit a maximum of three (3) fiction pieces for consideration in each issue. Please submit fiction as a Word document attachment or similar.

Poetry Guidelines:

We are seeking poetry that is original, affecting, provocative, impassioned, uplifting, introspective or spiritual in nature. The Newtowner accepts all types of poetry: free verse, light verse, traditional, haiku, formal and rhymed. Poets may submit a maximum of three (3) poems for consideration per issue. There is no minimum line requirement, but poems should not exceed 35 lines in total. Please submit poetry as a Word document or similar.

Creative Nonfiction Guidelines:

Creative Non-Fiction submissions should emphasize the creative and bear some of the hallmarks of literary fiction. We are looking for well-written, thought-provoking memoir pieces or essays that move the reader beyond the original subject of the piece in unexpected ways. Although there is no minimum word count, Creative Non-Fiction submissions should be no longer than 3000 words. A maximum of three (3) creative non-fiction pieces may be submitted per issue by each non-fiction writer. Please submit creative non-fiction as a Word document attachment or similar.
