THE NEWTOWNER Literary Awards
THE NEWTOWNER Inaugural Literary Awards
The Newtowner is delighted to announce its first literary awards!
For our first year we are establishing two awards:
THE NEWTOWNER International Poetry Award and
THE NEWTOWNER/Newtown High School Poetry Award.
The deadline for entries in each category will be June 1, 2012 with winners notified by September 7, 2012, and prizes awarded at the Newtown Arts Festival on September 15, 2012. NB: DEADLINE EXTENDED TO midnight JUNE 17, 2012
THE NEWTOWNER International Poetry Award is open to poets of all ages, both national and international. Poems should be no longer than 35 lines. Each entrant may submit a maximum of three poems. Please also read the conditions section below.
Entry fee: $10 for up to three poems
First Place in THE NEWTOWNER International Poetry Award receives:

THE NEWTOWNER/Newtown High School Poetry Award is open to students of Newtown High School. The theme for the 2012 award is “Spirit.” Poems should be no longer than 35 lines. Each entrant may submit a maximum of three poems. Final judging is by Lisa Schwartz, the Poetry Editor of The Newtowner. Please also read the conditions section below.
No entry fee, free to enter.

Second and Third Place and Honorable Mentions:
The names of entrants that win second and third place and honorable mentions in both THE NEWTOWNER International Poetry Award and THE NEWTOWNER/NHS Poetry Award will be listed in the Fall 2012 issue of THE NEWTOWNER Magazine and announced at The Newtown Arts Festival.
Conditions:
- All entries must not have been previously published.
- All judging will be blind, i.e. names will be removed from entries before judging.
- Entrants must include full name, full contact details and a brief bio with each entry.
- All entries must be submitted through THE NEWTOWNER website
Rights and Permissions:
THE NEWTOWNER requests First North American Serial Rights, with all rights reverting back to the Author 120 days after publication, leaving the Author free and responsible for future sale and distribution of the Work.
THE NEWTOWNER reserves the right to publish any entry submitted to the competition whether or not it wins a place in the competition.
